I'm using AdSense on a free hosted website (my first site - built in 1996.)
Before I did so, I wrote to AdSense requesting permission. It was obvious from the answer I received that the AdSense support person didn't understand my question.
Perhaps the most important thing is to make sure you obey all the rules listed in the AdSense Terms of Agreement.
