Hi everyone out there

I m thinking of building an email list and having subscribers to my newsletter. But as I am really new to this, I dont know where to get started. I think I can build the content of the newsletter myself. But, how do I collect the email addresses? What html coding I shall put on my site related to this? where these email addresses will be stored once anyone enters his/her email address? I dont own any SBI like stuff.

Looking forward for your help!
Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Niz

Hey, Niz -

I use my buddy Armand's RealAffiliate software for both my affiliate program and the unlimited autoresponders and lists you can have with it.

The opt-in box on your site would interface with the RA software (they give you the code to use.) My web guy, Ray McNally, set it up for me.

The most important part, though, is to have a hungry target market with money, learn their problems, and fix their problems. That's the content people will be interested in.

On my FCS site, as of 11-13-03 my opt-in rate was 43.64%. It's not because I'm special ... it's because the content is relevant to the visitors and they want to know what's in my free ecourse ... so they can decide if getting a copy of FCS is 'right' for them ...

Hope this helps you, Niz -

Blessings -

Niz, there are quite a few subscription list management services available, as well as scripts that you can install (or have installed) on your site to take care of this.

You may want to check with your host first, as they may offer a free program that is readily available to you, or have restrictions on which programs you can use on their servers.

Niz-
I ran across a program that "captures" your site visitors e-mail address.
I'm trying it, am still building my site, so will report back later.
One thing, you have to grab their interest.
Offering something Fr~ee does the trick, go to google and search for Fr~ee E-books, find one that fits your theme, and offer it for joining your newsletter.
The e-mail prograam I use is opt-in-lightning, and you can try it, if you're not happy, get a refund. (no-risk)
Personally, I can't wait to see how well this will work. If it works one-half as well as offered, I'll be escatic!

Just a wee warning re: harvesting email programs; They generate SPAM complaints. Permission emailing can too but with double opt-in and time stamping features...you'll have no serious issues. And get more mileage and cultivate a group of interested people. If you're successful, you'll find your list to grow.

Niz...my webmaster/friend in Canada may be able to assist you. (Her rates are very fair.) Just post if you want her contact info.

If you want to simply have a form where your visitor can enter the email address, go to bignosebird.com 's free cgi-scrips and get a copy of NoMoDoMo e-mail subscription system. Easy to instal.
Otherwise go with a paid service that offers autoresponders and real listmanagement, but there you have to pay around $20/month for the service.

Unfortunately, defence against spam alegations is a big issue nowadays...

If you use a third party service they will have systems in place, but if you host your own script you will need to keep track of all subscription requests including IPs.

If someone complains, you will need evidence to put your case before your host pulls the plug. Some are a little paranoid in this regard, so it might be best to ask them for policy guidelines first.

Just a thought,
Charlie.

Very Happy Morning niz85 while you are still checking around, you should put this on your list to look into as well. Its appears to be a good service. You can give it a try to get a feel of how it will work.

Hi Niz!
You simple put a form on your webpage to catch your visitors emails.
Here is a free autoresponder, which is easy to install and has all the forms
you need for your website and is completely FREE:

http://www.emailgogettersystem.com

Don't forget to offer some bonuses for subscribing to your newsletter, ezine or whatever you want them to subscribe.

All the best

dk beat me to it. I use the E.G.G.S. system also. One two sites... well, I am in the process of setting it up. Should be live by Saturday.

Anyway, it is free, easy to install (upload the files, change CHMOD on 4 files, run the setup and your done). Oh, and it offers single or double opt-in as well.

G'luck!

You can use Yahoo Groups or Topica for this.

Simply create a group, copy and paste the code into your website and away you go. The only downside is that I think (I use my own opt-in software) the Yahoo or Topica tagline will appear on emails. It is fre however.

What about defence against spam allegations (as I mentioned earlier). Are IPs and other details recorded with subscriptions?

Eric, if that doesn't drive a few more of them over to SBI, nothing will! Wink

Cheers,
Charlie.
