Post subject: Articles by other Authors

Hi,
Wil it hurt or help my site if I add a data base of
articles by other authors to my site? I know I need content
but I want to make sure it is the right thing to do.

There are two factors - possible duplicate content pentalities (which can be overcome by adding your own intro and conclusion paragraphs), but how about value to the user?
If you rely on providing content people have already read elsewhere, you might have trouble with repeat visitors (if this is important to you).
Uniqueness does have it's advantages, but I can't see anything wrong with supplementing your own content.
Just my opinion,

Ditto here. Think of your site as an aggregator of information about a niche. Just as you link out to other useful sites, I believe you should include other useful content, too. Of course, in addition to your own material is a given.
You could generate a site with just directory articles, but I wouldn't spend much time on that unless you can automate the process. Those types of sites don't generate tons of money. _________________ Robert

it's now not uncommon to see many sites aggregating content from other sites thru various means such as rss feeds etc. i think if ur copying articles from other site to provide content for genuine reasons, provide starting and concluding paragraphs as mentioned earlier, but credit nust also be given to the original author and a dead hyper link can be added if ur concerned abt outgoing links. this way both the search engines and ur visitors are kept happy. _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |

Getting articles from other authors is not unethical in fact many of them want you to do so. If you do get articles from them make sure you do so via an article directory, that way all the appropriate links back to the author is already there.
The only problem with doing this is the treat of duplicate content.
