Post subject: Wordtracker/Keyword Question
|
|
|
I'm currently using wordtracker and while I know a high KEI is usually a good sign, I was wondering what your personal preference/advice is when you have keywords that have 0-10 competing pages. How low is too low in regards to the amount of searches in the Count and 24hour column.
Is it worth it if it has less that 10..20..30...searches but no competition? I figured if I can group them in an overall theme it perhaps will work out.
Thanks,
Mel |

Assuming the low volume terms don't lend themselves to easy and direct monetisation, I think it all depends how easy it is to lead people to more productive pages via on-site navigation - especially if you have Adsense in mind.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

You have to remember as well where WordTracker receives their keywords. They only are analyzing 300 million a month (i think) from meta search engines like DogPile and MetaCrawler. Google, in a single day, does 200 million searches. So a low-volume keyword doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't target it. _________________ 2009 Insider Secrets

One thing I would really recommend to you is to forget about KEI. It really is not a good indicator for interpreting competition. It is a little like trying to see how fast a car goes by what the highest number on their speedo is. It is really irrelevant.
What you should be doing is simply typing in the keyword manually and seeing what the results bring up at Google or Yahoo or the search engine you are analyzing for.
When you get there make sure you look for the following kinds of things.
How optimized do those pages on the top 10 look?
Do they have a high page rank, or Alexa rank?
Are they highly optimized already?
So do they have those keywords featured in the title etc?
Do they look like big time sites, or back yard ones?
How many Adwords ads are on the side?
None, and you probably will have trouble making money from it (unless it is a rare niche). Tons (20+), and you will probably find that that is a tough niche. You want ones with something in the middle.
It is this kind of stuff you need to pay attention to.
I hope that helps. _________________ Jay Stockwell

I tried targeting low searches keywords, but results were not very
encouraging. That is because even if WordTracker offers only like
a small snapshot of what people search, you need solid keywords
to get some chance and also now all keywords that have only few
searches keep in time at least this low number of searches, some
might even get lower searches.
so, I'd rather go for higher competition / more searches keyowrds
than for low searches / low competition.
one reason to support this is that you should not target exact keywords,
you are targeting only a theme, a field, a set of keywords/phrases,
therefore if number of searches is good, effort is worthwhile _________________ SEO Directory | SEO Scripts |

I surprised this quote didn't get picked up that quickly.
Coming from someone that spent countless hours reviewing keyword research tools, I'd give some weight to that statement. _________________ Robert
