Hi fellow affiliate marketers,
After reading the newsletter this morning I was inspired to stop in and possibly help some new people.
One afternoon last year I scanned in some pictures of our family vacation to put on a web page to share. After I had them all sized and placed, I immediately started to think of ways I could make a little money from my efforts. Isn't that how you think?
I did the research at Overture and Wordtracker and found the keyword combination "redwood tree pictures" was the most frequently used. I decided to try a little experiment and see if I could get a #1.
I used the keywords redwood tree picture everywhere on the page... in the title and tags, in the links and link titles, alt images, image names, etc. Then I went to Amazon and found some nice books which feature redwood tree pictures. They supplied great content about redwood trees in the descriptions of the books.
I also went to Allposters and found a nice redwood tree poster, and made a banner for my affiliate art website with a tree as well, just for fun.
As I was sitting at my daughter's dance class last week, I read about a new book that looked interesting to tree huggers like me. I added the link when I got home. I love being able to sell cool things I find easily.
Anyway... it worked! If you try a search on Google for redwood tree pictures, my page is #1. Now this is not a tremendously popular combination, but Google sends about 80 - 100 people a day to look at my family pictures, which is nice.
I think creating a similar page would be good practice for the new person. Just pick a subject you like and do a little search research. Copy my page if you want. I think I saw someone who was selling cat pictures on this board. Put together 10 pictures of persian cats and persian cat books and see if you can get a #1 too.
You probably won't make a fortune, but your site will be working for you while you are sitting in the dance class waiting room. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the kind words Charlie. You made my week.
Yes, guest, I have made quite a few sales. The tree books are my second best Amazon "traffic driving" link, and I have sold I think 12 redwood books this year at 15%. I suppose it could be better.
Here's a fun way to look at it... Let's say there are 80 - 100 people a day who use Google to look for pictures of the redwoods. When they click on my link they will find a lot. It's my job to either send them off to an affiliate site or entice them into looking into the rest of my site and abandon their search.
Isn't it a fun game we play?
I like to use short copy and humor to encourage my visitors to stay and click around. Hopefully they will leave on a Google click.
I love this forum because everyone is so eager to help. After all, we all have to start somewhere and we need all the help we can get.
JC you have some really "cute" stuff on your site. Wish I had all day to look through it. Will get back to it later.
Millie, I skimmed through your site and it looks pretty good to me. I did see a few misspelled words though but you can tell you have put a lot of work into it so just keep striving to improve. You'll get there.
Nice redwood site. Did you hand code it or use and html editor?
I use Dreamweaver. I am getting ready to abandon my tables and make the big switch to CSS. _________________ Jim Crawford
