Hi guys. Has anyone tried building google sitemaps? I have tried for a few of my sites and they had very little effect on my google rankings. Maybe I am doing something wrong Confused

They were never supposed to affect rankings. There only purpose is to help larger and dynamic sites get more fully indexed.

Google sitemaps are only for indexing your pages (fast), not for helping you to rank higher.

Even after you submit your site information through google sitemaps, it takes time for the search engine to crawl and index your site. Also, as mentioned by others in this post it does not help you in getting higher ranks.

From creating a google sitemap it took around two days to show more pages for my site, so I was happy. I then created another sitemap for a different website, but for some reason it didn't index anymore pages, which were listed on the sitemap.

SBI provides google site maps as part of their service. It go me completely indexed in a very short time. Ranking better is another storey.

Found this tool for creating xml sitemaps.

Since building and submitting my xml sitemap to google my site has gone from 191 pages indexed to 416. I submitted on the 23rd of Jan and today is the 9th of Feb, so just over 2 weeks.

This site has been loosing pages from the index for a while.

There are no limitations to number of links. YOU can create sitemaps with unlimited urls...
