1. simple I'll put out a blog using blogger.com
2. then write lots of articles and distribute it on articles site.
3. find related blogs to my topic and leave helpful comment on them.
4. repeat 1-4 on daily basis.
I did this exact thing with one of my freinds blog and that blog started making 5$ a day from 22nd day...

LOL, that's the best advice I have heard for a while for this type of situation. You do that and it WILL work. simple and elegant, no need to get more complex than that!

And to think if you times that by 100...200...1000.  If it works, then multiple your efforts.
That is great advice. Blogger is free. So is www.wordpress.org . Their are plenty of free hosting companies out there.
I would have to agree that setting up these blogs is one of the easiest and quickest ways to get money in your pocket. Use adsense.

If you are blogging for money then you need to go beyond hobbies .. think like businessman
2nd step is very simple. it's about writing articles and distributing it for free with a link to your blog.
sites which accepts free articles
articlehub.com
goarticles.com
ezinearticles.com there is a list of sites you can search in this forum
or you can use some services to distribute articles for a fee like isnare.com or articlemarketer.com
if you are making a poem blog then I guess you cannot write poems and submit it to articles directory(tho you can write a how to write poem kind of article).
In you case you should be looking for sites which accepts poems and stuff like that. you might need to participate in peom contests and do things differently that normally blog owners.
the advantage which might help you being a poet is that poem can become viral if they are good. so after every poem just write a line, Feel free to tell/share this poem with friends and family and give this link yourblog .com ..
are you getting it?
you can use adsense(I suspect if there are enough adsense ads related to your field), clickbank or watever you feel like in blogs no restricition

Is "blogging" a good way for a newbie to start making money on the web?
Let's say I can afford domains and stuff, is it possible to start makin over 300-500$/month after 3-4 months of hard work?

Yes, its very possible. Its the "hard work" part that gets newbie affiliates. Even with adsense, if they don't start to see a return on their efforts, they'll drop outta the game.
I would say you probably wouldn't make that kind of money with just one site. But with a few dozen, I could see that happen for ya.

I think it is really discouraging for a while until you, say, make your first car payment. Then it's still really hard work but much more encouraging.
Try to hang in there until you reach a concrete benchmark you've set for yourself. It's slow going at first.

I am trying WordPress for creating blogs on one of my new sites. I found the tool satisfactory as it is free - though it seems to have some bugs - I often get errors when I try to modify any posts.
Now I want to go to the next level of having the blog on my website without modifying the basic layout of my website - I mean I want my own header image, horizontal and vertical menus - can anybody guide me, which blog engine is good for that and how easy is to customize the scripts to fit into exisiting templates.

Good advice Varun - on article marketing and blog commenting (as long as there's value in your postings).
Additional marketing strategies for your blogs, are blog directory submissions and press release marketing (if you have something newsworthy to distribute to news media sites/ PR sites).
