I am totally new to this. I am not sure exactly where to start and have absolutely no money. I've got the time and the determination to succeed in this, but I need help here. Getting a website, books, whatever takes money and this tree is completely bare. Is there a coach or easy, step by step, FREE manual out there somewhere?
Here's the ebook that got me started. A very good read, hope you'll find it useful. And, do you really have NO money? Not even 20-30$ to invest in your business that can bring you so much more? Welcome to the forum. Others may disagree with me, but if you can't spend any money, you wont have a business, you'll have a hobby...and hobbies don't make money. You need money for a website and marketing. While you are trying to gather money, there is a good free affiliate guide you can read that will start to educate you. You can do affiliate work with out sepending too much money. You may want to advertise by adding a sig file to all of your emails. You can start a Blog for free advertise your products for free. I have proved that anyone can make money on the internet without having to spend a fortune. I have recently been introduced to the Plug in Profit Site. I bought the package, hooked, line, and sinker. I still can not believe that I bought this package it is totally out of character for me. I hate to spend money. I figured that it takes money to make money right? So why not!
*What it did cost me was 60 bucks to get my website up and running.
What I did not realize was that the program (The 30 day course) wanted me to shell out big bucks to promote my ?money making website?.
Maybe if I would have spent the thousand dollars as suggested, I may have gotten my first customer allot sooner. I may even be making one thousand dollars a week by now ? But I?m cheap I did not shell out the big bucks. What I did do was simple and pretty cheap, and pretty darn effective. I did the following 5 things.
1. I have written articles and submitted them.
2. I have submitted my URL to the search engines for free.
3. I have dropped a few lines in blogs, and forums with a link to my website
4. I have a few Google Adword ads posted. ( I used low cost keywords)
5. The easiest thing I do is add a SIG file to all my emails.( do it, it?s free!)
Most marketers do not use a SIG file. Why? I do not know, not my problem. But I use my SIG file in all of my emails. You know those annoying forward emails, that your friends and family, send to you on a daily bases. I used to hate those things, but now I love them. Why? because I forward them to everyone in my address book, and yup, you guessed it! I use My Signature file. You would be surprised on how far those crazy emails can go. They are like the Energizer bunny they keep going and going; with my SIG file . At the end of all of my emails you will see my SIG file.

I have to say that using the 5 steps has brought me new customers, and has made me some impressive money. The good news is, it doesn?t have to cost you an arm and a leg, to make money on the internet. Be smart, keep it simple and most of all have fun. When you have the chance do some learning about internet marketing, learn and then learn some more. The more you learn the better off you will be. ?knowledge is power?

dorindolio, I was broke when I started.
My first website was a free-hosted one provided by my ISP, and it's still ranking well in Google and generating a useful hobby income - about $14 a day now - nine years later.
In fact this site, AssociatePrograms.com, started out as a one-page directory of affiliate programs on a free-hosted website.
Two years after struggling to build that first site, I managed to quit my job.
You can build websites for nothing, you can get them hosted for nothing, you can get free publicity in a variety of ways.
It's really tough doing things the totally free way, but it IS possible. Been there, done that.

dorindolio - There are two ways to do affiliate marketing.
The first way is with lots of time and the other is with money.
It will take you a lot longer to succeed with the former. But if you are determined and resourceful there are many ways to get out there and promote other peoples products.

Dorindolio has left the building? If you do not spend the money you have to spend the time. I would recommend a Time management plan too. I set A few hours a day to work on promoting my site, working on my site. I write one article a week period and post them at various sites. I do see results it takes time but it can be done. I hope that everything works out with you. If you need anything I can assist. I am a frugal minded being with a work ethic second to none. I know that if you run your business with hard work and utilize a well thought out plan you will do just fine.

The signature file is the BOX accessed in your PROFILE by clicking it in the top menu. Put those last four lines there - 300 character limit. It will then attach to all your messages, past and present.

dorindolio, If you want your own Internet business strongly enough, you can find ways to get money to get you started..
One way is to analyze every item of your expenditure and be utterly ruthless.
For example, do you drink coffee, tea, fizzy drinks or anything similar? If so, drink water instead - it's cheaper and better for your health.
Do you smoke cigarettes? If so, learn how to stop.
Do you have any magazine subscriptions you could stop?
Do you go to the movies or eat out at restaurants? Stop for a while.
Do you buy meat? There are many cheaper alternatives which will provide you with protein.
Do you buy takeaway food or processed food? Do you buy junk food? Go a library and get a few good recipe books that teach you how to eat well on a budget.
Look around your house. Are there some unused items you could sell via your local newspaper, a garage sale or on eBay to generate some cash?
Do you have unused books you could sell?
If you have 200 books you don't want, you could sell them at Biblio.com.

You can do things the free way. However, you'll speed up your progress tremendously if you generate a few hundred dollars to get you started properly.

Hi dorindolio,
One method you could try is creating and distributing free reports.
You can create a pdf ebook/report for free, using free software like the one available at: http://www.pdf995.com.
Pick a topic that you think people will be interested in. Maybe a problem that you often hear people talk about on forums. Tell people what they need to do to overcome this problem in your report...
...then introduce them to a product that will solve the problem for them (using your affiliate link in your report).
As an example: The problem could be that business owners struggle to keep up with e-mail, and following up with their customers.
You could tell them 'what' they need to do is invest in an autoresponder, and explain the benefits of using such a service.
Then introduce them to an autoresponder service (with your affiliate link) that you recommend, and detail your reasons why they are better than the compettion (benefits/features).
Give the report a good title, and submit it to free ebook directories. Do a search on Google and look for pages with the words: 'free ebooks'. This should help you find websites that give away free ebooks.
You could try approaching the site owners. Let them have a copy of your report. Offer to make a special copy just for them. This would basically be the same report, but with a link back to their site on the front page. 'Report sponsored by: 'their website' etc.
This might help to get your free ebook a more prominent position on their website. The more it gets downloaded, the more people click on your affiliate link etc., etc.
You could even look for a budding ebook cover designer, to see if they would do a free ebook cover for you, in exchange for getting exposure for their service. Again, you could offer to place an ad for their service in your ebook, and tell them that you will be distributing it far and wide.
The ebook cover would help to give your free report a higher perceived value and appeal.
You could repeat this process for different products/topics in many different niches.
When you get your own site, you should include a link back to your website in the reports. Where they will be able to get more free reports and other useful info from you.
To help you get an idea on how to structure this type of report, just download a number of free reports/ebooks from the free ebook directories, and see how other people are doing it.
You can pick up some good tips and methods this way, and do something similar but in your own style and for different affiliate products.
All this can be done for free.

Great post you got going here, let me add my two cents.
I am going way back to answer this question.
When I got online I built my first site with Site Build It.
I just built a site of three pages and had no clue what to do next, that site brings in $100 dollars per year up to this date.
The thing is I had money, but I was missing one thing and that is more important than money, it was education, my excitement got me overwhelmed but my excitement faded. My know how for pushing on and adding content rich pages that builds a really successful site was all messed up. I just didn't know what else to do.
I thought I could do it alone.
Money won't make you a big success.
What I have learned over the years, is that you have to educate yourself by reading and posting questions in the forums.
Build your site from within your mind, and set your plan on paper.
Do your keyword research using free tools and looking at the top sites that fits in your plan.
Don't be tempted to get started right away, build up enough money to pay for your hosting and domain name. It is very affordable today, $100 dollars can get you started. You can even go the free route, that way it will cost you nothing, but you loose interest with free, because you have nothing to loose and can walk away more easily.
I still believe in having your own domain name online, at least one.
I also discovered that your best bet for continued success online is really using the forums and posting any questions you are stuck with, if I had done this many years ago, my success would have been off this chart.
Now to update you on my current status, I am making money with affiliate programs, I was even able to sell a SBI(Site Build It) package...
But, it did cost me to get started, I purchased XSite-Pro, a domain name, James Martell's Manual and web hosting, total cost just under $500 dollars.
In the six weeks that I launched this site, I have recovered my total investment.
Anyway, it all boils down to patience and eductaion, you can't rush success. Have a go at it, build slowly, choose free or paid, you can do it if you are willing to keep posting and reading in this forum.
Food for thought, there are many online who are paying for products and can't find any success online, it's because they are not following their own plan (maybe they just don't have a plan). You have a plan stick with it, you don't need to buy every manual online, you just need to get started.
No one manual will teach it all, you have to learn by trial and error, just keep adjusting as you go.

You've asked a great question. I sometimes
think I learn even more from them then the
person asking. I also think I speak for many
when I say that no matter how much money
we have made, we are still newbies-at-heart,
because there is so much to learn. What works
today doesn't always work tomorrow.
You can make it online even if you are broke.
Some will miss this next point, but without mental
liberation, there is no financial liberation. It will
never be any other way either for a very simple
reason - "if you do not understand wealth, then
there will be no understand, only luck, that allows
you to keep it or rebuild it as life drains it away."
That has to be gotten first. I'm not referring to
a poor person in the street who really just needs
a coffee and a meal, but for those of us who at
least have our basic needs met. Without mental
freedom, there can be no financial freedom.
People can give you methods and formulae, and
you can follow them like following a raindance
diagram, and you might even get lucky and do
it just before it was going to rain anyways...but
you still wouldn't understand the principles behind
it all.
Sometimes, just following a formula and doing what
your told can lead to good results which then inspires
you to learn more, but again, the key is mental liberation.
And for that, I remind you of what Robert Kiyosaki said
that woke me up in a big way, "In order to become financially
free, your passive income must be equal to or greater than
your expenses." That is really it....really.
So while it might not seem important, and it might not feed
you for today, I suggest you put effort into sitting down with
pen and paper and figuring out how much you need to make
each month in order to cover your expenses. Play no mental
games like "yes, but what about the unforeseen..." or "what
about tolls from highways that may or may not happen.." etc,
the idea here is to come up with a number that, if you were to
be able to cover it, would put your mind at ease.
It sounds easier than it is because we are so used to living in
fear and confusion that to come face to face with the idea that
it starts off this easily is almost offensive and certainly shocking.
In one example, I was teaching a man of 18yrs. He said his
expenses were only $250/mo. Again, the mind will play games,
"But he was living at home with his parents!" So what, he
came up with a number that woudl bring him peace of mind.
Once we get that peace of mind, we can go on to figure out
how much is needed if he had to move out on his own. We
didn't need paralysis of analysis.
When he came up with $250, I even added on $1000/mo as
a cushion since that would be WAY beyond peace of mind for
him. When I told him that he had 30 days to make $1250 and
that it only amounted to ONE SALE EACH DAY of $37-$40 dollars.
He started to get the "Oh my god!" experience.
I added more to that, but I am writing all of it into a report
for Mike Filsaime for a special endeavor you might all be
reading about shortly.
As for me personally, I am definitely locquacious. I came
online 3 years ago working off of a small nest egg I took
with me from my family's business, but here I am making
close to 5 figures per month, and gaining peoples trust even
though I market with a pseudonym. Anything is possible, my
friend. And I am glad to help anyone as long as they can
tolerate my sometimes abrasive and flamboyant public face.
After you've come up with your monthly expenses to cover,
go back and read Jason Lewis' post very carefully. And then
ask more questions based on that and what you got from others
posts. You will continue to get help no doubt.
Starting a blog at a free service has already been mentioned, but services such as Blogger.com have blogs that don't include trackback out of the box, so treat it as a starting point and aim to get your own web hosting that comes with cPanel and Fantastico.
A certain pills merchant offers over 20 pre-built sites that you can install on your own server or you can host on their free server. My wife tried just one of these sites and within a month she has had her first US$55 day from those pills (natural supplements, not fake brand name ones).
The best solution is to use Google to search for specific tips such as these and don't sign up until you have bookmarked a lot of them and can compare.
