Thanks Charlie and Mike, I know have a better understanding of what to expect.

How long did it take for you guys to start making $250 to $300/month? and what methods of advertising do you use?

Thanks again

Concerning this goal of $100/day or $3,000/month, are you talking about AdSense revenue, revenue from promoting affiliate programs, or a combination of the two?

That amount is a very reasonable goal for new webmasters. You don't need to purchase an eBook, course, video, etc. to learn how to achieve it.

Just read every issue of Allan's free newsletter, read it again, study it, and then put it into action. If you have extra time on your hands, go to his website and read the back issues. Concentrate on the issues where you see the word "niche."

Hello again.

Starting in 1997, it took me over 4 years of part time dabbling and buying thousands of dollars worth of marketing materials and arguing with the people who wrote them. Once I went full time, things sped up quickly.

I'm not saying it will take you anywhere near as long, though. I was looking for the perfect internet business, but it's best to compromise! Wink

I wasted a great deal of time and money through procrastinating and analysing. But at the same time, it's difficult to say what I learnt without even realising it, if you see what I mean.

My empire is extremely fragmented - many small sites, but I am working on two larger content sites now. I favour doing things my way, and short of running my own physical servers, like to do everything myself - scripts. marketing, content. I would make more money if I delegated, but - like Frank Sinatra - I want to be able to look back and say "I did it my way". So far I am very happy with this approach.

Turning back the clock, I would get a good general "internet marketing" course to learn the basics of direct marketing, affiliate and viral marketing and SEO. Then I'd stop buying, but concentrate on waching what the "experts" do. Pick a couple of "gurus" (a second opinion always helps).
If you are already familiar with Ken Evoy's philosophy, you might like to balance this against the approach some of the direct marketers take.

Regarding affiliate preselling, look at the way Allan G writes. I love analysing his style. Journalist meets subtle persuader, with some personal disclosure thrown in for good measure. It works very well.

Then just start doing your own thing. Take all advice as "another view" rather than "orders". Be prepared to learn from everyone, but always decide for yourself in the end. Do your best to pinpoint what you really want (rather than what you are supposed to want), and take steps to achieve it.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.

Hi charlie and Bobby, thanks so much for your willingness to share your valuable insights and story.

The $100/day goal is both adsense and affiliate commission combined. I've decided this morning that I will give up on adwords, since the bids for my keywords are too high to yield any profit in fact it will be a money losing proposition for me to use adwords or overture.

I've been in the internet scene about 7 years, mainly working as a web project manager for corporate America, so I know how to build websites and internet is not that foreign to me. I purchased all the books, Roselind, Ken's and James Martell, after trying to build my site with SiteBuitIT, I decided to build the site on my own and use Jame's technique.

I am considering doing direct email campaigns, any thought on this? by the way, I am encouraged by Bobby's input, there is hope after all!

Thanks
Jason

CreditLoans,

Glad to see you're in the affiliate mix!!! If you are starting with no client base email wise it can be a tough go. I have a list of over 35,000 opt ins for one of my sites. It is getting increasing more difficult to deliver the email message.

There are about 50 ways to do this "Interent Business" stuff. Focus on one method, test, try and learn more. I'm like Charlie... lots of online years before things clicked, but I learned more than I thought.

Best way to learn is to get in and get dirty. Experience is a wonderful teacher.

Jason - if Adwords prices are high, it looks like Adsense might be more than worth investigating. Wink

Paul Myers' "Amazing List Machine" - sorry about the hypey title (I didn't pick it) - contains some excellent ways to build a targeted list quickly by piggbacking existing traffic sources and relationships others have spent years nurturing.

Cheers,
Charlie.

I've learned that you can generate traffic with both Overture and AdWords even if you're not in the top listings.

As far as email marketing, be very careful as that is a good way to generate a lot of headaches for yourself.

Be patient, put good content on your site, and stay in for the long run.

Hi Bobby, how do you generate revenue from adsense without the site listed high in google?

Creditloans,
You could try some of the other PPCs. Their bid prices are often much lower than Adwords and Overture.
