I think we all have problems with tech support from time to time. Especially when you get on with someone from India or who is just reading off their screen but in fact knows less than you about how their server is run.

In the case of site5 I made sure I asked the right questions up front and was willing to deal with a bit of getting acquainted jitters. They also said they had a toll-free number but as I said in my earlier post I only got voice mail and was directed to a non-existent knowledge base.

Finally, late yesterday evening I received an offhand response from their tech support that I should try publishing to a directory without the file name. This, of course, has no chance of working, though I gave it a try. The email said that if that didn?t work I would just have to wait until the DNS servers settled in. Which as I?m sure we all know can be three days--that it was a problem on my end?!

If I hadn?t already canceled the account I would have done so at that point.

The moment tech support tells me something is my fault?without a clear indication what the fault is--I bolt.

I own and run a web site with approximately 2500 daily visitors. My web site has hundreds of pages and I am very happy with my current web host, 1and1 (I used to use Verio). From my personal experience, I have never had a problem with 1and1, their prices are extremely reasonable, they offer different and flexible packages, their servers have never run slowly, their customer service is more than adequate, and they offer a lot of extras like stats, useful applications, frontpage extensions, lots of e-mail options, database help, MYSQL, etc. (see 1and1.com).
