I know I'm about a year late but I wanted to say thank you to everybody who posted in this thread. I had always wondered about creating a URL icon, but had not done anything about it until I was asked by my boss to figure out how to create one for our website. Thanks again everyone.

hello to every 1 i'm new here & i'm trying to do the favicon to.
ti idd every thing that you said but nothing works.
i also did what this line say still not working.
can some 1 help me with that?

The URL mentioned by JodiR is excellent for newbies.

Straightforward process. Just upload a photo from your PC that you want to turn into a favicon and the script will provide you with the image and simple instructions on how to add it to your site.
