James mentions being resourceful in his 2005 book. This means thinking outside of the box--making small changes that makes your sites unique. How many of you have followed his advice? In some ways, it's contradicting James's other advice to follow his methods exactly.
Here's what I've done. One of the things I hated most after a while was writing the same style of articles--you know, those ones that sound more like sales brochures than offering practical advice. This is a common complaint among critics because the primary focus of the articles is on keyword density.
I don't worry about that much anymore. I just pick a topic based on a keyword and write--I don't pay too much attention to keyword density. This hasn't hurt my sites at all in terms of visitors.
The other thing I did was dump the affiliate programs and just rely on Adsense. I found that affiliate programs on my sites didn't pay as much as the adsense ads. This also had a secondary benefit--I got into a lot more directories (including Dmoz which hates affiliate programs). In turn, this increased my search engine rankings and increased visitors and increased adsense income. Also, I found that as I moved up the SERPs, my adsense revenues per click increased. I think this is the result of increased relevance value placed by the Google because my site was higher up.
I followed Allan's recommendation when I started creating my JM style sites. I made sure the sites were useful, rather than having pages geared only towards SEO.
The next thing I did was use the new AdLinks units. I replaced the big box layout that JM uses on his sites with the 200x90 4-link AdLinks box.
I also took the advice I found in a post over in the search engine forum area and added listings from ebay, amazon, news, and DMOZ.
Finally, I added my own version of PPCProfitMachine to each article page so they are always dynamic.
So far, I'm happy with the results. _________________ Robert Payne
I also forgot to mention, I've recently created six new sites that are a hybrid of JM style sites and NichePortal style sites. With a couple of those sites, I've actually started making money from eBay and Amazon. Imagine that! _________________ Robert Payne
Yeah, I'm one of those persons who's just too curious to remain satisfied by applying ONLY the JM model. I have twisted things a bit by blogs to my sites, as well as using SEO Elite to look for link partners. Blogging is actually pretty good if you avoid the spammy blog and ping techniques. I take advantage of RSS feeds this way and get into directotirs I never would have thought about. Those are some nice 1 way incoming links
