I've let you all breach guidelines in displaying URLs here as XSitePro was new and everyone was in a feeding frenzy of sorts looking for, and sharing information.
However, it's time to get all those URLs back in the signature files and Kidino, I agree with Allan, your last effort was inappropriate in the extreme. I am doing some "editing" and expect discussion messages to be less promotional in future.

Post subject: Transitioning existing sites to XSite?
|
|
|
Hi, everyone. Been months since I've posted here or even visited, for that matter. Great to be back.
I've developed a couple of heavy-content sites aimed at generating revenue, but I'm burning out on the work involved vs. the amount of return (so far). Everything I've been reading lately about XSite has got me jazzed again.
One question I haven't seen addressed: Can you transition existing sites into XSite for the purposes of maintenance, updating and further development? Or is it really just for creating new sites from scratch? _________________ Steve Smith |

I think first, you need to see if the design (template) for the existing site is compatible with XSitePro. After that, maybe you need to transfer the content into text files. Using the text files, you can import those contents ...
I haven't really tried this, so there might be some errors in this ... _________________ Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino

Hi,
Using xsitepro, can I import 50 text articles at once
and then have 50 webpages built quickly. If not can
I use a content publisher with it.
Also how do you upload the site, just use an ftp
program.
And can an rss feeder be added for dynamic content.
Thanks,
Jeremy |

Jeremy:
Well, I broke down and bought XSitePro a few weeks ago. Very impressed. I guess the greatest thing is how it eliminates 90% of the design and maintenance drudgery for a site. You can make one change and instantly it's reflected throughout your site.
For example, on my DHEA site--the first site I created with it--I originally had both and a left- and a right-hand navigation bar. Last night I decided I didn't have any real use for the right-hand one, so I "disappeared" it by setting its width to 0 in the master layout template. Instantly, it was gone everywhere, with the main column seamlessly expanding to fill the extra space. I could go on and on about the drudgery-saving features!
But that said, adding content is still a chore. Or to put it most positively, XSitePro frees you to spend most of your time on adding and developing content. I had my DHEA site basically laid out in an afternoon. However, I have spent much of my "free" time since then writing pages, writing articles and trying to find other people's articles to reprint.
As for your specific question, well, you can certainly create 50 empty pages in an instant, all of which will have the same look, default font settings, etc. And there is a feature for automatically inserting individualized placeholder type copy on all of those pages. Still, you would need to paste your articles one-by-one into the pages and do at least some minimal formatting (like tagging the headers), similar to what you would do with any WYSIWYG web page editor.
At least I think this is the case. Bear in mind that I built my first site with XSitePro entirely by replicating the steps in the tutorial that came with it. I have not yet read the actual XSitePro manual or gotten into the help files very deeply, so it may have powers I have not yet discovered.

XSitePro has a built-in FTP program. I like it because you don't have to mess with setting up a directory structure or anything on the remote site, or spend time finding files (such as graphics) that you might have used on your pages but that are scattered all over your hard drive. XSitePro's FTP program grabs everything and puts it all in the right place, all linked up correctly. When I update the site locally, it's basically just a one-button click to completely update the live site.
I hope this helps. If you want a content-rich site, I don't see any way around spending quite a few hours at working on that content, even if you're using other people's stuff. But as stated above, I like that this program lets me off the hook for all the hours I used to spend on non-content labor.

I signed up for XSite pro Firday night. I tried to register and sent my user name and password. It said I would get an unlock code. I never did. I emailed support@xsite pro 4-5 times and have not heard back from them. Needless to say, I have not been able to use the software.
1, Can anyone tell me how to reach support?
2. Would they be gone over the weekend?
3. Anyone else have this trouble?
4. Any other help?
Thanks
