Post subject: Directories as keywords?
|
|
|
Would it be a good idea to make a directory off of your main index/domain that contains your content word (and move all content files into this directory)? Would this aid in targeting ads and/or search engine optimization?
Example: www.subject.com/subject/subject.html |

I don't know that subdirectories help much if you use your keyphrases in the page name itself. Subdirectories can help a great deal in keeping your files organized however.
If you do create subdirectories with keyphrases, linking to the index page within the subdirectory, i.e. www.keyphrase-domain.com/keyphrase/
without a page reference was, at one time, given extra points by some engines. I don't know if they do it anymore though.
Keep in mind, if you build subdirectories, you are moving your pages from the root (what is considered by some engines as primary pages they give more points to) to a secondary location (which some engines look as being not so important).
Six of one and a half dozen of the other in my view

Also, consider subdomains, if your host allows them...
For example:
http://your-phrase.your-phrase-info.com/your-phrase.html
This might help balance the issue of including keywords against moving too far from the root.
But remember, although worth doing, there are many more important things to address from an SEO point of view. The off-page factors, for one.
Hope this helps,
