Hi,
I Hope to get lots of debate on this one.
I would like to get all your opinions on Niche VS publications online that cover a variety of topics. Can many niches within one site work? I'm not just referring to another business site.
Everybody's advice these days is to focus on single topic niche sites.
I understand why it's recommended BUT could you explain how there are many publications online that cover a variety of topics, each page on a separate keyword or keyword phrase and are high in the search engines. Does Google really penalize a site if it covers an array of topics through one website if each page is focused on a different keyword or keyword phrase?
Google doesn't penalize for covering one subject or covering 100 in one single site. Google's focus has alway been relevancy, and improving relevancy. But you tell me, which is easier to determine relevancy on, one site of 100 pages about one topic, or one site of 100 pages with each page on a different topic?
Why do these 100 topic sites have high rankings? There could be a variety of reasons, but the single biggest reason, when it comes to Google anyway, is backlinks. Google gives a lot of relevancy points on a site that has high quality links coming in. What are high quality links? On topic to the page the link points to and good quality page/site the link comes from.
