Post subject: AdSense & "Health Savings Accounts"
|
|
|
Of all the pages I have published, I've finally encountered a term that I can't seem to get to generate relevant ads on the page.
If you search at Google, there are a number of sponsored ads for the term "Health Savings Accounts" and using the AdSense preview tools reveals a number of ads. I've tweaked the page as much as I can think of while still keeping the content relevant and useful.
But I still can't get relevant ads to display on the page. I suppose it's possible none of the advertisers have selected content match, but it seems unlikely.
Has anyone else enountered this problem for this specific term or for another term?

Maybe the pages are new and Google hasn't sorted things out yet?
Have you emailed Google, given them the website and keyword? They may have some ideas for you.

Based on some other things I'm seeing, it's almost as if AdSense is working very slowly right now - not displaying relevant words on a new page as fast as they have in the past. I thought there was an old thread about that here - I'll see if I can find it.

I can't blame Google for being confused. What on earth is a "health savings account"?? LOL If there are already advertisers out there using that phrase, I wonder if Google is grabbing onto other keywords in their ads? Have you tried loading your pages with other related words? I think AdSense forbids you from contacting advertisers directly, but I would think if you wrote to AdSense and explained the situation in detail, they'd be willing to check into it. Maybe you could outright ask them to recommend some keywords to use to grab these ads, since they are relevant to your site and your site is relevant to their advertisers, who will certainly want to connect with viewers of relevant sites.

"Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) were created by the Medicare bill signed by President Bush on December 8, 2003 and are designed to help individuals save for future qualified medical and retiree health expenses on a tax-free basis."

BTW, when I do a Google search of the term "Health Savings Accounts" tons of Google AdSense ads turn up. So, if you are not getting the results you need, kindly ask Google to review this particular page for you. |

Ah. That explains it. I'm in Canada. Thanks for the explanation, Bobby and Netmeister.

Here's a follow up - maybe it will help someone in the future.
I had two pages on the same site but on different topics and neither were getting relevant ads. They weren't getting PSA's, they were just getting non-relevant ads and thus weren't likely to be clicked by people visiting the page for the content.
I contacted AdSense, gave them the two URL's, and explained the problem.
In a couple of days, I got an email back telling me they had fixed the problem. They didn't tell me what they did, but when I checked, one of the pages was showing relevant ads.
The other page was still getting non-relevant ads.
I responded to the email and thanked them for fixing the one page and explained the second page was still a problem. In less than 24 hours, I got another response and it almost seemed like a canned response. I was told I needed pages with content instead of words and short sentences in order to get relevant ads.
Thing is, the page doesn't have a few words or short sentences. The page has a number of paragraphs of information with a good mix of keywords. Further, the page that isn't getting relevant ads has more content than the page they "fixed" and that is getting relevant ads.
I didn't push it any further with AdSense.
It seems ironic I'd get that message considering the amount of content that is on my page and considering all the pages floating around where people have obviously just thrown up a few words to get AdSense to display.
