I am fairly new to the affiliate scene and I was wondering how blogging helps your site/s rankings. I understand that blogging is like a personal journal that is update regularly, but my question is, do you place a link back to your affiliate site with every post to help your page rank?
Thanks in advance,

One thing great about using blogs (especially blogger.com) is that the internal links built in all your posts and archives builds your PR.
Should they have to do (and link) to your affiliate site, yes, you can build the PR in your affiliate pages.
Quoting,
"do you place a link back to your affiliate site with every post to help your page rank?"
Yes, precisely. However, your blog must have some PR value because it's really worthless if you have alot of PR zero sites linking to your affiliate site as it won't help build its PR. So, what is important is that:
1) you build your blog's PR,
2) you can submit your affiliate site link elsewhere (affiliate sites, articles, etc.)
While no. 2 can be done fast, doing no.1 is probably the best method in the long run. _________________ Point-n-click Internet Business & Marketing Generator

Another benefit is that I haven't seen mentioned is that it seems to cause the search engines to spider your pages more often.
I was having very little luck getting Googlebot to come scan my site, but after I started a blog on Blogger.com (which Google owns), the Googlebot started coming right away.
There's a technique where you can start a blog on Blogger.com and have it feed into MyYahoo and MyMSN pages that you set up and it causes THOSE spiders to come sniffing your way as well.
Here's a link to an article titled, How to use Blogs to get listed quickly in Internet Search Engines on my web page. It might be useful to you. _________________ Chuck Waters

well it doesn't make much difference.. if your blog has no PR value even then you can get ur site deeply crawled n more often.. if your site is update more often and is optmized properly(on page/off page both). then Your site'll get good result...
