Everytime I look to top webhosting like globat and ipowerweb I begin to wonder how this giant host company offer such big space with very low price. Globat could give 5Gb webspace with 75 Gb bandwidth with only $5 ??? Is globat offering linux and linux host getting cheaper or server harddisk cost getting lower??? Even the hosting service where we host our website only could gives less space and bandwidth. Probably service is count here. Giant host could be overwhelmed by clients that could neglect individual customer. Also maybe globat dont gives fantastico in their cpanel, just guess.

The majority of hosting companies base their entire biz plan on the fact that YOU will never use that 75GB of transfer... And they're right. A couple of my sites with 5k-6k visits a mth use at max 1 GB of transfer...

I'm sure someone here such as Allan or someone more established with more sites and more visitors could vouch for this...but that's the idea. Servers are generally oversold but everything works out b/c the majority of people on one server do not use what is alotted for their package.

That's the basic idea. HD space (or webspace as most hosting packages call it) is cheap. Hard drives are pretty cheap these days... even the faster ones that *should* be in a good web server.

And most people never use the bandwidth allotted. Its the law of averages.

If a hosting company does find someone who is using that 75 GB of bandwidth, they will usually shuffle that account around on their servers to balance it with all the people who don't use it. So you don't have 10 people all using their max bandwidth on the same server.

Oh, and another big thing for the webservers is processor useage. And you will find that many hosting companies restrict that pretty heavily (no more than 20% usage in a 5 minute period or such). Processor usage really affects everyone, so they restrict it. Bandwidth doesn't affect the other people as much as processor usage does.

The cheaper hosting becomes the better for me as I will have to pay less for my sites being online, which means I will make a larger profit.

They offer control panels with restricted features too. Beginners don't know that. After sometime, they try to develop their web sites with forums, cgi or php scripts, then they realize that these hosts don't allow or have some restrictions.

Like they don't allow you to run cron. If they allow only one cron job etc etc.

If we need basic hosting, just few html pages and a shopping caert, then these hosts are the best resources. (small or home based business people)
