Hi,
I'm sure Ken has long ago explained the importance of the SiteSell Corporate page popping up when affiliates send prospects to any of the product pages.
I was always happy with that arrangement, but since setting up my links to the new "Laser Beam" pages eg...
My reasoning is if you have this extremely focused page where you send a predefined prospect I wouldn't want that person to have any doubt as to what or where he/she should start reading. I wouldn't want any additional barrier or hurdle in the way towards reading Ken's excellent copy on the Laser page.
Also, the Laser Beam pages are fairly big files, and as far as I can tell one first has to wait for the popped-up Corporate page to open - which then turns out not to be the actual copy the prospect was sent to.
I guess you could say there are pros and cons to having the Corporate Page show up. One thing to consider is trust. Having the corporate page of Sitesell show up, with its myriad list of bestselling products, can help to reinforce the credibility of the laser page ... it's a big company behind it, not an unknown.
As far as being unsure which page to read, I have always had the corporate page popunder (not on top), and only after the primary page (in this case your laser page) opened and started to load. Once the pages load, the laser page is on top and ready to go. So I don't see this as an issue I've experienced.
Now, let's say your visitor doesn't buy SBI right off, it's common, that's a big purchase to make on a first visit. You want their email so you can stay in contact ... building your relationship with them, so they will think of you when they are ready. Many surveys and studies find you need on average 7 contacts with a visitor to get a sale, more when the price is in the range of SBI.
What if they didn't do the signup on your site? They didn't buy SBI, they just closed the window. Now they see the corporate page, they start to browse, see some of the free courses they can get ... so they sign up. Bingo! You have them, they signed up for a course that will be noted as your referral. Now, they view a 5 day course, which happens to presell SBI. That makes 6 contacts. Now they purchase, you get the commission.
As I understand it, that's how it works. If they go to someoneelse's site, because that corporate page didn't popunder, then sign up for the course through them, *sigh* you lost them unless they come back to your site.
So yes, it can be good to have the popunder from Sitesell.
Hope this helps,
Debs
This assumes my understanding is correct, someone please correct me if I am mistaken. _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!"
1. I would definitely prefer a pop-under for the Corporate Page. I always assumed Ken's page (eg the Laser page where I send my prospects) controls whether the Corporate page pops UP or UNDER. Can I change that setting? If yes, where do I find that facility.
2. I was always under the impression if I send a prospect thru my affURL to SiteSell, a permanent cookie is written to that prospect's system, regardless of whether he takes a course or some action. Am I mistaken?
You can't change how the corporate page pops under, and as I understand it, Sitesell never pops on top, always under. I am wondering if you are coding your link correctly. You might want to check that. If it persists, contact Sitesell at support.sitesell.com
Secondly, the permanent cookie doesn't get placed until that person makes a purchase. Until that time, they only get a last referrer cookie. That's the way I understand it.

I agree with Debs, but I think it is also placed if someone signs up to join the affiliate program as your sub affiliate. In other words, if they decide to purchase in the future (no matter who refers them), you get commission.
Again, please put me right if this isn't the case!
Actually, there's a thread on the subject of SiteSell's affiliate program...

Are you on AOL?
If you are their browser will pop-up the pop-under (if that makes sense) At least that is what used to happen when I was on AOL. I think that this is the only browser this happens with, so most of your visitors will see the "Laser" page first.
If you are not on AOL, then of course this information is of no use to you

I know of at least one more instance that your permanent cookie gets placed and that is when someone signs up for the value exchange service.
The corporate page that pops up links to where people can sign up for it too.
The only problem for me with popups on targeted pages of merchants I am affiliated with is that if I wanted to use pay per click advertising methods with Google's Adwords to send traffic I would have to send it to my site first because Google doesn't allow popups on the destination page.
Sometimes it's better to do it that way and sometimes it isn't.
This is some great information on getting those permanent cookies for Sitesell
Anyone know of others?
