1. Don’t end up like these sad people
=============================================
I saw a very sad newspaper article this week.
It was about some elderly people who are worried because their rents are going up $13 a week.
“I suppose I’ll have to eat less,” one woman told the newspaper.
When YOU are 70 or 80 years old, will you be living in rented accommodation and having trouble affording necessities?
What a dreadful way to spend your twilight years.
If you don’t have some sort of a plan – and ACT on it – perhaps you’ll end up like those sad people, anxious about whether you can pay for food.
If you’re making money these days I hope you’re paying yourself first – squirreling away at least 10% or 20% of your earnings into a solid investment, such as property, shares, superannuation – or whatever looks best in your part of the world.
Here’s another income stream you may have overlooked.
I’ve set a monthly goal for earning commissions from affiliate programs that pay more than once – residual income programs and lifetime commission programs.
For example, imagine if you refer someone to a good, cheap web host such as https://www.associateprograms.com/cheaphost, which is ideal for anyone who wants to set up dozens of mini-sites.
I’ve earned an average of 51 cents for every visitor I’ve sent to this site. That’s a lot better than most affiliate programs.
Because this company offers high quality hosting very cheaply, decades from now – perhaps when you’ve retired – you could still be earning monthly commissions.
Another example is Aweber – https://www.associateprograms.com/aweber – which pays me every month for referring people to its useful autoresponder service.
Much more popular – and profitable – is Corey Rudl’s private site where he interviews successful marketers, most of whom earn over $100,000 a year.
You can join his program here:
https://www.associateprograms.com/coreys
The commissions are fairly small but as you watch the monthly total grow each month you’ll realize what a powerful strategy it is to promote recurring commission programs.
Here’s an article on the power of lifetime commissions:
How I achieved 71 sales in 2 days
Even without any other kind of investment, residual income streams are like having your own superannuation scheme.

2. Seven more ways to find topics for affiliate web sites
======================================================
(For the first part of this article, see
Find topics for affiliate websites )
Affiliates choose web site topics and affiliate programs in different ways.
Here are six more ways:
* Seek high conversion rates.
Super affiliates often use earnings per click (EPC) to measure the effectiveness of affiliate programs. They look for affiliate merchants who know how to turn visitors into buyers.
As a rough rule of thumb, if you promote a professional looking site created by an experienced marketer like Corey Rudl – https://www.associateprograms.com/corey – you’re likely to do better than if you choose a site built by a newcomer.
Commission Junction makes it easy for you to find higher paying affiliate programs.
Go to Commission Junction – https://www.cj.com – (join this affiliate network, if you haven’t already), log in and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Click on “Browse For Advertisers”.
Affiliate merchants with the highest EPC (at CJ, that means earnings per 100 clicks) are listed first.
Choose from among the programs high on this list.
CJ’s EPC will give you a rough idea of the earnings you can expect from the program. Your results will be better or worse, depending on how well the products match your visitors’ wants, and how persuasively you reccomend the products.
* Jump aboard new programs.
Keep an eye on affiliate directories and networks for brand new affiliate programs.
Every week about 20 to 30 new affiliate programs are added to the AssociatePrograms.com affiliate directory at
https://directory.www.associateprograms.com/new-links.html
Many affiliates bookmark that page and visit it regularly.
Sign up for new affiliate programs and quickly build web sites for them while you have little competition.
Some affiliates test by creating a one-page mini-site and buying traffic from Google Adwords, Overture and other pay-per-click search engines. See which ones Nathan Power says are the Top 10 at https://www.PayPerClickSearchEngines.com .
To build a more comprehensive site aimed at getting free traffic from search engines, I use and highly recommend Site Build It! – https://www.associateprograms.com/buildit .
* Aim for high traffic.
Hunt for high-traffic opportunities – highly popular topics.
For example, Ronan Kennedy, who sells a book of sample resumes for job hunters – https://www.associateprograms.com/rsamples – says that 500,000 people searched for “resumes” in a recent month.
Dozens of merchants offer careers and job affiliate programs. You can find a wide selection here:
https://directory.www.associateprograms.com/business/careers/
To check how many people are searching for particular keywords and exactly what keywords are being typed into search engines, I recommend Wordtracker – https://www.associateprograms.com/wordtracker
It has a free trial.
* Grab overlooked niches.
Seek topics in which few affiliates have built sites.
It’s much easier to get a No.1 spot in Google if you don’t have much competition.
For example, I learned the other day that there’s an affiliate site about nothing but different brands of telescopes.
Use Site Build It! – https://www.associateprograms.com/buildit – the ultimate tool for affiliates – to analyze profitable key phrases. They’re phrases that have high demand and low supply.
How do you spot an overlooked niche?
Look through the more than 5,000 affiliate programs at https://www.associateprograms.com and consider topics that other affiliates would probably avoid.
Here’s an example
At AssociatePrograms.com recently there was a new listing for La Trobe University’s MBA course – https://www.mba-distance-learning.com/ .
However, if you look at the main page of that site, there’s no sign of an affiliate program.
Most of your competitors will be discouraged at this point and leave the site.
Don’t be defeated so easily.
Here are two ways to find the affiliate program.
(a) Click on the “About” page and you’ll find a link to the affiliate program.
OR…
(b) Use the Google toolbar – https://toolbar.google.com/ , which is a very useful browser plug-in.
Type “affiliate” into the toolbar and click on “Search Site”.
You’ll find this page: https://www.mba-distance-learning.com/affiliate.htm
After all that hunting, you’re rewarded! The program looks good. You can earn up to $10 per lead and 5 cents per click.
Affiliate programs that pay per lead AND per click are extremely rare these days.
Remember, it’s much easier to be found in search engines if you don’t have much competition.
For example, today a really old site of mine is No.1 at Google for “best macaroons”.
Well, perhaps that niche is a little too obscure!
* Get paid over and over again.
Look for affiliate programs that pay you month after month, perhaps even year after year.
Residual affiliate programs, such as some for web hosting and autoresponders, automatically pay you every month.
Lifetime commission programs pay you every time “your” customer makes another purchase.
I love these programs so much I set up a web site listing them:
https://www.LifetimeCommissions.com
(We’re having a few technical problems with that site. If it’s not online right now, check back tomorrow.)
* Choose people who will help you.
When you join some affiliate programs you receive a quick welcoming email but after that you’re mostly ignored – until they want to try to sell you something.
In contrast, other merchants make a huge effort to help you succeed, by providing useful newsletters and tips on their site.
Helpful affiliate merchants that spring to mind are:
Corey Rudl: https://www.associateprograms.com/corey
Marlon Sanders: https://www.associateprograms.com/amazing
Ken Evoy: https://www.associateprograms.com/ken
Neil Shearing: https://www.associateprograms.com/scamfrees
What do these four people have in common? They’re all successful Internet marketers. They can call on their own experience when they tell you what works and what doesn’t.
Neil is an interesting example. He’s just hired an experienced affiliate program coordinator, Kathy Burns, and is obviously making a determined effort to help his affiliates succeed. Keep an eye on this guy. He’s going far.
* Become interested in something.
If, after your brainstorming sessions, you still haven’t found a topic that interests you, try this.
Throw yourself wholeheartedly into researching a topic.
You’ll find that the more you learn and become an authority on the subject, the more you’ll become interested in it.
As your depth of knowledge increases, the more interested you’ll become.
It works.
Eventually, one day you’ll realize with surprise that you’re actually enjoying what you’re doing.
Are you still undecided?
Are you still wondering what topic to choose for your new site?
Read the “Brainstorming concepts for your site” section in Day 2 of the free “Affiliate Masters” course.
At more than 100 pages, this free course is much more useful than most marketing manuals that cost hundreds of dollars.

3. Now it’s easier to find affiliate resources etc
==============================================
After receiving an anguished complaint from a reader who couldn’t find something on the AssociatePrograms.com site I’ve created a SiteMap.
I should have done this years ago. Not only does it help visitors find your site, it also helps search engines find your pages easily.
Some visitors have been surprised to discover just how many pages there are at AssociatePrograms.com.
Here’s the SiteMap:

5. Thought for today: Take the jumbo jet

“Many website developers are still chasing the butterfly of ‘pretty’. Ignore that insect. ‘Informative’ is the jumbo jet that will take you where you want to go.”
