Large websites or small niches?

Website entrepreneurs, does your site have a clear purpose?

Many site owners would answer, "Sure ... I have information about widgets, smidgets and gidgets."

They have sales letters promoting widgets, smidgets and gidgets. They also have lots of other great products and subjects so the reader could read there for months, if the reader wanted to.

But does the average reader devour comprehensive websites and stay on a website for prolonged periods? NO!

Let's ask ourselves an important question. What made the reader visit your site? SPECIFIC KEYWORDS!

Niche markets are powerfully gathering momentum on the Internet. Why?

Because websites are created to serve specific niche markets, such as people searching for small yellow widgets that can do something special or gidgets that can locate ants in the dark.

My point? Get specific and your niche site will enjoy a more targeted group of readers who are sincerely interested in and may buy that niche product that your niche website has to offer.

Yes, this means you will have to create more websites for the dozens of markets that you wish to promote. Each niche has a distinct group of interested of buyers.

Often website entrepreneurs diversify when building websites. However, it is better to do the reverse on the Internet - aiming for a niche is smarter.

For example, if your interest is in home improvements, you could have individual websites for bathroom, formal, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, backyard, frontyard, garage etc.

Before you say.... "It may not be profitable to own so many sites," or "I don't have the time to manage so many sites," ask yourself: "How much time have you already invested and what rewards have you received?"

You can easily create subdomains (for example, "www.bathrooms.improvements.com") with only one domain name registered.

[EDITOR'S TIP: Search engine spammers have over-used the sub-domains technique, tossing many thousands of sub-domains at the search engines and sites have been delisted as a result. Don't overdo it. If you you have a reasonable number of sub-domains, you'll be fine. Unfortunately, no one knows exactly how many is a "reasonable" number.]

The time required to collect and or write your content is the same on one big site or lots of little sites.

Your benefits of having niche sites are: Less unrelated traffic, more targeted traffic, more satisfied readers, more sales, more profit.
