If you're successful as an affiliate, does this mean you'll be successful as an affiliate merchant?

I'm finding out.

With the launch of our SpeedPPC today, suddenly I'm on the other side of the fence.

The first 12 hours have been a wild ride.

After 10 years as an affiliate, it feels strange to be launching our own product, and waiting with bated breath to see what affiliates and industry commentators say about it.

Well, Jay, who invented SpeedPPC may have been waiting anxiously, but I'm on vacation in Port Douglas in Queensland's far north and was still in bed when the launch began at 7am (Australian time) today.

By the time I got out of bed, SpeedPPC had already notched up its first $50,000 in sales.

While I ate breakfast, there were 33 more sales.

Remember how addictive checking your affiliate stats was when you first started doing affiliate marketing? I must say that checking sales stats as an affiliate merchant is MUCH more exciting. I could get to like being a merchant.

Our very pleasing first 12 hours were helped by enthusiastic comments from PPC experts such as Michael Sampson, one of the underground characters Jay met at one of Yanik Silver's Underground seminars. Michael told Jay...

However, of all the pleasing comments I've seen, my favorite is Heather Paulson's review of SpeedPPC on her blog.

Her review is really important because of Heather's standing in the industry. She has more than 11 years experience initiating and managing marketing strategies for Fortune 500 companies. She has management experience of budgets over $20 million annually.

It's also important because Heather is not trying to sell you anything. There's no affiliate link in her review.

In a calm, matter of fact way, she describes some of the things you can do with SpeedPPC and shows you screenshots.

However, at one stage she breaks her calm and writes, "YEAH, FREAKING YEAH!" Later, in reply to a comment on her blog, she writes: "...you'll love this!"

Just a reminder, SpeedPPC is not suitable for everyone. It's best suited for people who are doing PPC marketing. (One of our beta testers spends $1,000 a day on PPC.)

2. Not my first product, or even my second
==========================================

A few affiliates reviewing SpeedPPC have called it my "first product".

That made me chuckle.

Actually, my first product was a recipe ebook I wrote called "50 Fabulous Gluten-Free Recipes". I sold the first copy online in May, 1996, before I'd ever heard the word "ebook". I called it an "electronic book" and had to keep explaining to potential customers what that was.

My second product was an ebook I wrote called "Internet Success Stories", launched in 1997. The book soon needed drastic updating but by then I'd decided it was much easier just to promote other people's products instead of creating my own.

Now, after 10 years of being an affiliate, I've come full circle.

My sincere thanks for everyone who participated in our successful launch and in the long days leading up to the launch. Jay and I are really grateful for all the help you've given us. You know who you are.

In case you're wondering, of course SpeedPPC has an affiliate program. For the first seven days, starting today, the affiliate program is open only to beta testers and customers. After that, we'll open it up to everyone.
