Are You Making This Mistake?
Associate Programs Newsletter #526
The most common mistake I keep seeing affiliates make is creating websites and blogs that aren't worth linking to.
If you're struggling to make sense of affiliate marketing, you really need to think about this.
Good, strong links to your site are the lifeblood of your business. They tell the search engines that you have a high quality site (or maybe a silly but interesting one) that deserves to be ranked highly.
Yet so many affiliates ignore this and go down a familiar path to obscurity...
They choose a little niche and dredge up a few words to say about each of the products they want to promote. Then they go to an affiliate forum, such as ours, and ask, "How do I get visitors to my site?"
They often receive standard answers, such as blog commenting, forum posting, social bookmarking, article marketing and directory submissions.
If you believe that's going to work well for you, think about this...
Imagine you're one of the 1,500 or so PhDs who work for Google.
You're having a little brainstorming session with a few colleagues, discussing your favorite topic - how to improve Google's search results.
As a super intelligent guy with a PhD, you're more than slightly bothered by the fact that Google is dumbing down the marketplace, letting the masses decide which sites are most important, but it's not easy to come up with a better system. You discuss ways to make sure that, while each link is a vote, all votes are definitely NOT equal. You keep tweaking things to give certain links much more juice than others.
Next time you and your PhD colleagues are tweaking Google's algorithm, how much importance are you going to place on the links that are easy to get, the links affiliates can arrange for themselves?
The answer is obvious. Not much, because a vote for yourself isn't a real vote.
So we need to get links that look like genuine recommendations by people who like our site.
What's the best way to get links that look genuine?
The best way is to create content that is worth linking to, so that you actually do receive real, solid, genuine links to your site from related sites.
It doesn't have to be difficult.
Ask yourself, "What do I know, or what I can learn, or who can I interview so that I can create an article or a video that other people will like and recommend?"
Sometimes the answer can be as simple as coming up with an article titled, "The 10 best ..." or "The 10 worst ..." or publishing a list of useful resources in your niche.
For more ideas on how to create content that's worth linking to, do Google searches for "linkworthy" and "link-worthy".
You can exchange links with other sites, but don't over-do it. The PhDs at Google place more importance on one-way links.
Here's a refresher on how to get one-way links to your site...
Your best chance of success
Joanna and I are relaxing and spending time with family in Central Otago, New Zealand, soaking up the southern summer sunshine. Affiliate marketing has changed our lives, more than we ever expected, giving us the freedom to go where we want to go, and work only if we feel like it.
It wasn't always like this. In my first 18 months online, I wasted a lot of time fiddling about, experimenting, before I discovered techniques and systems that worked well.
If you're not having the success you want in affiliate marketing, instead of forever experimenting with different methods, I strongly recommend that you switch to a proven system. Get SBI.
I use SBI and I consistently recommend it to my family and friends. They love it, and I'm sure you will, too.
More than 100,000 customers have already used it to create real online businesses that let them work from home or wherever they want (it's a web based system).
It's more than web hosting or site building. It's a complete, step-by-step process that provides all the tools you need for brainstorming a successful idea, creating a site, getting visitors, sending out emails, adding a blog, and monetizing your site.
All the tools you need are there including the incredible private forum where SBI users share tips and help each other succeed.
SBI provides unparalleled, inarguable proof of success that no other company can match. They've got heaps of testimonials to prove it.
