The big difference between learning from a book and learning from a coach is that the coach provides feedback. The coach can look at what you're doing and correct your mistakes.
An ebook or an instruction manual goes only so far. As Ken Evoy keeps saying, you need to "bring your own brains and motivation".
The right coach can help provide brains and keep you motivated.
A coach can help keep you on track, encouraging you to do the tasks you need to do to succeed.
Do YOU need an affiliate coach? Only you can answer that. Some affiliates do, some don't.
Before you get excited, I have to tell you that it's almost impossible to find truly expert, real, one-to-one affiliate coaching.
Here's the reason. Imagine you're a real super affiliate earning, say, $100,000 or $200,000 a year. If you were coaching affiliate students one-to-one, they wouldn't be able to afford your hourly rate.
You're in a Catch-22 situation. Once you ARE successful and are bringing in useful dollars for a good affiliate merchant, the merchant may phone you and start giving you a few tips on how to improve your website and your methods.
However, it's very unusual to receive this level of attention until you are already successful.
Another way to get affiliate mentoring is to make friends with a highly successful affiliate. That's a Catch-22 situation, too. If they're visibly successful, they'll have lots of people clamoring to be their "friends". You need to have skills to bring to the table.
So what can you do, apart from just buying books and instruction manuals?
Option 1: Form your own mentor group
Get together a group of affiliate friends who live within driving distance and meet once a month to share the results of your research and experiments. You'll learn faster if you have someone to bounce ideas off.
Try asking on our affiliate forum if there are any affiliates in your area. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Option 2: Good, cheap affiliate mentoring
For a very good, modestly priced option, check out Anik Singal's Affiliate Classroom
Anik and his team provide step-by-step coaching, expert interviews, case studies, an exclusive forum, niche affiliate program profiles, conference calls, affiliate upsell coaching, tempting bonuses ... you get the lot.
It would have made my life so much easier if this affiliate mentoring site had existed when I first started in affiliate marketing.
Option 3: The path I recommend for any affiliate newcomer
Get Site Build It! and the comprehensive instruction manual that comes with it. It teaches you how to build a business. It not just software, it's not just web hosting. It's a whole suite of tools which would cost thousands of dollars if you had to buy them separately.
But even better than the tools are the people behind it. They'll provide you with excellent support, including a fantastic private forum that has a wonderful, caring, sharing atmosphere, where SBI users - or should I say raving fans - help each other.
UPDATE: On the Site Build It! private forum, one of the really helpful moderators, Debs, has now made more than 20,000 helpful posts, answering affiliates' questions! That's incredible mentoring. Debs is an advisor, coach, role model and friend to thousands of affiliates.
Why do you not have an "ABOUT US" information on your home page?
[We have a link to our "About Us" page in the left-hand column on each page page. It's under the heading "Site Menu". Allan.]

I have written what I think is a "best seller" e-book and would like to market it via Affiliates. It is about my experiences with Internet Dating. If I mention a Dating Website in my e-book, can I get some money from that site if I drive traffic to them? If so, and this is what I don't get, how does the dating website know that the traffic was generated by me and importantly, you another Affiliate sold my e-book ang generated traffic to the dating site how would the dating site pay me?
Thanks
[When you join an affiliate program, you're given a unique affiliate link to use in your marketing. You can use that affiliate link in an ebook your write. When someone clicks on the affiliate link and buys something, the merchant tracks the click and you earn a commission. Commissions are usually paid either by check or via PayPal, and sometimes by wire transfer. If you want affiliates to promote your book, one simple way to do this is to join ClickBank for about $50 and ClickBank will give each affiliate a unique link to use when promoting your book. ClickBank will also pay your affiliates their commissions. Our affiliate forum is a good place to ask questions like this. It has lots of friendly, helpful members. Allan.]

This article is great. I found out that you have to have constant contact to your affiliates to keep them motivated, and if they have questions then they are most likely want to promote the product.

Hi. Got:
* Am an expert in the career/jobs field
* 10 000 mailing list (all opt in)
* Bunch of viral reports out there, very popular
* Often get published in the media (newspapers)
* Have written 3 100 page guides, good topics
But:
* Am not selling anything but my time (hard work, and I can't do more than I'm doing)
* Am feeling frazzled, overworked and too busy to even think or figure out the best way to capitalise on what I've built.
So:
* Is there anyone out there to help me put it all together?
Just chanced upon this site - maybe the right person chance upon my comment.

[Thanks for the offer, but in the past I nearly killed myself trying to help everyone who wanted me to be their mentor. There just aren't enough hours in the day.
I've provided heaps of free information on this site. Click on the "Beginners" link at the top left of this page, and also ask questions on our affiliate forum. The forum has many friendly, helpful people. Read, then ask questions. Learn something new every day. Allan.]

I have a very good feeling this site would do me good in the future. I am just a fourteen-year-old who wants to earn money to support my family. Thanks a lot for creating this site. It would prove useful to me, just as my father said. But is it possible for a teen like me to do this kind of thing?
[Yes, of course it is. What matters most are skills and determination, not age. Allan.]
